LIVING FROM SELF

PRACTICING SELF LEADERSHIP IN THE REAL WORLD

OCTOBER 22-25, 2026
KANSAS CITY

A 4 day, in person retreat for women, offered by invitation to those who have worked with Tara, past and present.

YOU’RE ALREADY DOING THE WORK

But something still isn’t landing in your everyday life.

  • Your understanding the nature of parts. You’ve had moments of parts connection to Self.

  • And yet, when it matters most—in relationships, in conflict, in stress—you get flooded and blended with parts.

  • You may leave sessions feeling clear, only to lose that clarity once you return to your daily life.

  • You find yourself reacting in ways that don’t feel aligned, even though you’ve gaining understanding of what’s happening internally.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • You’re learning more about your parts but still feel blended with them in real time

  • You leave sessions with insight, but struggle to maintain it in everyday life

  • You over-function, shut down, or react before you can catch it

  • You understand Self energy, but struggle to be Self led in your day to day life.

  • You notice your patterns most clearly after they’ve already happened

  • You can hold space for others, but it’s harder to stay anchored in yourself

I’m the same Tara your parts already know: the book-loving, yarn-loving, dog-loving, IFS-loving human you’ve met over Zoom. Being together in person simply gives us more room to slow down and connect in a new and different way. I would truly love the opportunity to spend this time together, deepen our connection, and introduce you to some remarkable and wonderfully warm women.

THE FLOW OF OUR TIME TOGETHER

Thursday

5 pm - 8 pm

Arriving & Settling In

We begin with a gentle arrival into the space. This evening is designed to help you slow down, settle in, and orient to Self.

Together, we’ll begin creating a sense of internal and relational safety, allowing you to ease into the experience at your own pace. You’ll also have space to connect with the group and begin feeling your place within it.

Friday

9 am - 8 pm Plenty of time built in for rest and reflection

Understanding What Gets in the Way

We will explore your system’s patterns, protectors, and internal dynamics that active parts and distract them from Self. The intention is not to fix anything, but to begin relating to these parts with more specific awareness and compassion.
You’ll be guided through unique experiential exercises, journaling, and small group reflection to help you notice these patterns as they arise and gently shift your relationship with them.

Yoga Session

We’ll begin Friday with a gentle, grounding yoga session led by a certified yoga teacher. This will not be about pushing your body or performing poses, but about meeting yourself exactly where you are. Through slow, intentional movement, breath, and awareness, you’ll have the opportunity to reconnect with your body in a way that feels supportive and respectful of your unique needs. This session is designed to help you settle your nervous system, soften internal tension, and create a steady, embodied foundation for the deeper work of the retreat.

Saturday

9 am - 8 pm Plenty of time built in for rest and reflection

Self Leadership in Real Time

This is where the work becomes more active and experiential. Through guided exercises and supported relational experiences, you will begin to notice activation as it happens, bringing your parts into the journey instead of becoming overly blended, and practice leading from Self even in the presence of strong parts.
With support, you’ll have the opportunity to try this in real time and build confidence in your ability to remain Self-led.

Sound Bath Experience

In the afternoon, you’ll be invited into a deeply restorative sound bath experience led by an experienced sound therapist. As you rest comfortably, you’ll be immersed in soothing tones and vibrations designed to quiet the mind and gently open space within. Many people find sound work helps them access a different layer of awareness, one that doesn’t require words or effort. This is an opportunity to simply receive, to allow your system to unwind, and to integrate the emotional and internal work of the retreat in a way that feels spacious, calming, and nourishing.

Sunday

9 am - 12 noon

Integration & Returning Home

We will focus on integrating what you’ve experienced and preparing to bring this work back into your daily life, not as a concept, but as something accessible and lived.
You’ll leave with a clearer sense of how to stay connected to Self and continue this work in a way that feels steady and sustainable.
And, with a deeper trust that your parts can meet your Self differently when it matters most.

The Who and What

This is an invitation only retreat for women who are current or previous clients of Tara. Individuals who already speak the same language of healing, recovery, and hope.

The retreat includes guided experiential exercises, focused teaching, real connection, opportunities for real-time relational awareness, thoughtfully curated relaxation experiences, and space for personal reflection and integration.

The group is intentionally kept at a size that supports both depth and safety, and in addition to Tara, you will have access to IFS practitioner retreat assistants throughout our time.

There is no pressure to share beyond what feels right for you. You are invited into the work, but never pushed.

A NOTE FROM TARA

As many of you know, I’ve been practicing Internal Family Systems for over 15 years, and one thing I see again and again is this: many people understand the work, but struggle to live it when it matters most. Parts are very dediated to their work.

This retreat was created for that exact space.

Not to simply teach you something new, but to help you experience yourself differently—to stay with yourself, trust yourself, and lead your life from a place that feels steady, clear, and truly yours.

This work is quiet. It’s subtle. And it changes everything.

READY TO JOIN US?

  • Bridge the gap between knowing and living this work.

  • You don’t need to be more prepared or have it all figured out. You simply need to be willing to show up as you are.

  • This work lands differently in person—in real time, in relationship, and in your body.

  • Spots are intentionally limited to preserve the integrity of the experience. Once the retreat is full, registration will close.

Most participants choose to stay at the retreat location for ease, comfort, and convenience.

Staying onsite can offer a more immersive experience. It allows for a slower pace, less transition in and out of the space, and often a deeper sense of connection with the group. That said, it’s not required, and you’re encouraged to choose the option that best supports you.

If you’re considering sharing a room, we’re happy to help connect you with other participants who are also open to that.

  • Check in on Thursday begins at 4:00 PM, and our first session starts at 5:00 PM. We recommend arriving with time to settle in so you can begin the retreat without feeling rushed.

On Sunday, the retreat will conclude in the morning. If you are traveling, we encourage you to plan a departure that allows for a slower transition home, rather than rushing out immediately after four days of caring for yourself.

Check out is at 11:00 AM, and we’ll wrap up at 12:00 PM. We’ll have a place to store your luggage after you check out so you can stay present and unhurried through our final session together.

There are several options close to the hotel, including walking distance. There is an on site restaurant and room service.

  • We aim to accommodate a range of dietary needs and will gather detailed information from you during registration. We work with the hotel to support these requests whenever possible.

That said, we cannot guarantee a completely allergen free environment. If you have severe allergies or highly specific dietary needs, please make note on the registration form so we can discuss with the hotel what will feel safest and most supportive for you. You’re always welcome to bring additional food items if needed. The rooms each have refrigerators.

  • You will receive a detailed preparation email prior to the retreat. In general, snacks, a journal, and anything that helps you feel grounded will be helpful.

  • Yes. While the days are full, the retreat is intentionally designed with space for rest, reflection, and integration throughout. There will be natural pauses built into the day, along with opportunities to step away when needed. You’ll be encouraged to listen to your system and take the time that feels right for you.

  • We understand the importance of feeling safe and supported with daily details when you’re at the retreat.

A member of our team and a designated hotel staff member will be on site throughout the retreat and contact information will be provided.

  • This is an intentionally small group experience designed to support depth and safety. The group is limited in size, and at times we’ll also use smaller breakout groups to support different learning styles and levels of comfort.

  • No. A basic familiarity with parts and Self is sufficient. You don’t need to know everything—just enough to recognize the language.

  • No. This retreat is psychoeducational and experiential in nature and is not a substitute for individual IFS work with a therapist or practitioner.

  • Emotional activation is a natural part of the journey of healing, and the retreat is designed with that in mind. You’ll be supported through gentle pacing, grounding practices, and access to Tara and the assisting practitioners if needed. You are always in charge of how deeply you go, and you’ll be encouraged to listen to what feels right for you.

  • You’re not alone. Many people feel some nervousness before arriving, especially when stepping into something new. You’ll be welcomed into a small, supportive group, and there’s no pressure to be anything other than where you are and who you are.

  • No. You will never be required to share. You are always in charge of what you choose to share, when, and with whom. Many participants find that sharing emerges naturally over time, but it is always your choice.

  • Your privacy matters. We ask all participants to honor the confidentiality of the group by not sharing others’ stories or identifying details outside of the retreat.
While confidentiality cannot be absolutely guaranteed in any group setting, we are intentional about creating a space rooted in trust, respect, and care.

  • We encourage mindful use of phones during the retreat in order to support presence and connection with the experience. There will be natural breaks throughout the day when you can check in as needed. We ask that phones be on silent during sessions.

We also understand that some participants may need to remain reachable, and you are welcome to do so in a way that feels respectful to the group.

  • You’re welcome to participate in whatever feels supportive to you, or to rest during these times. Both are completely optional.

You may find both experiences a way to support you in your rest and relaxation.

  • Yes, we plan to have Ollie and Maci there. While many participants enjoy having them around, we’re mindful that not everyone is a dog person. There will be dog free areas and plenty of space to participate without interacting with them if that’s your preference.

They will also have a designated handler during the retreat, and they are hypoallergenic. Both Ollie and Maci weigh less than 15 lbs.

  • Due to the limited size and nature of this retreat, your registration secures a reserved space.

    All payments are strickly non-refundable.

Please note that the retreat organizer is not responsible for any travel or accommodation costs incurred.

If Hedman Wellness cancels the retreat due to unforeseen circumstances or insufficient participant numbers, we will provide a full refund of all tuition fees. However, Hedman Wellness is not responsible for additional expenses such as travel costs, lost work time, transfers, or extra accommodation. To safeguard against these potential losses, we recommend you take out additional insurance to cover such contingencies.
